OakCraft Celebrates Homes For Our Troops 300th specially adapted custom home
Homes For Our Troops will celebrate the delivery of its 300th specially adapted custom home with two events in September – Volunteer Day on 9/11 and Key Ceremony on 9/12. The home will be donated to Army Sergeant Nathan Shumaker in Hillsboro, Missouri. SGT Shumaker, a Purple Heart recipient, was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan. Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds specially adapted, mortgage-free homes nationwide for the most severely injured Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of these Veterans have sustained life-altering injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives.
Homes for Our Troops have built over 190 specially adapted homes nationwide. During the year, HFOT can have upwards of 55 build projects for Veterans nationwide in various stages of construction (land search, permitting, build). OakCraft is proud to provide the cabinetry for these specially adapted homes.
